How to take the fear out of failure!

By Life Coach: Amy Callowhill

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas A. Edison

Did you know that only 8% of people who make New Year’s resolutions actually succeed in achieving them? That’s means that there is a 92% failure rate!

Does that mean you shouldn’t bother making resolutions?

No…because people who DO make resolutions are still 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don’t make resolutions. So it is still worth it!

Don’t avoid setting goals because of your fear of failing. This type of self-sabotage, anti-self-love loop needs to STOP.

Let’s examine the word FAILURE and overcome its obstacles!

F is for Fear

Since when did failure become so scary? No really, stop and think about the time you failed and it hurt you. The time you were most devastated. What happened?! How has that changed you? Understanding the fear will help with accepting and healing the pain. Once you accept it, it can’t control you anymore. It becomes a lesson. Say, “Next time I will need A,B,C in order to be more successful at X,Y,Z”.

A is for Again

Understand that the people who are most successful are also really really good failures! They fail all the time! That’s how they learn to be good, by finding 10,000 ways that won’t work.

I is for YOU

Look inward. Your success is not up to your mother, your mentor, your third-grade teacher. YOU need to show up for yourself. YOU need to put in the work. YOU need to be your biggest fan!

L is for Love

Love yourself, you’re worth it. Go to a mirror right now and say I LOVE YOU 10 times. Was that hard? Then do that every day until it becomes easy. I’m serious, go do it!

U is for Unconditional

It doesn’t matter that your car wouldn’t start, or something came up with the kids or at work, find another way that day to workout. Working out is an appointment, regardless of what life throws in our faces, find a way to show up.

Or if you didn’t want to insult your grandma by not eating her apple pie, make a point to eat less sugar that day and enjoy her homemade pie. It’s about finding the right balance.

R is for Rest

Take it easy. If you go, go, go, attack, attack, attack your goal… guess what? Your body will tell you to slooooooow down! You are NOT at war with your body. Push yourself, but be smart. You’re in this for the long haul. Do not attack yourself.

E is for Excitement

YES you have goals! YES you’ve failed before and now that’s a good thing because you won’t waste your time doing what doesn’t work! Get excited! Keep failing, keep fine-tuning and figuring out what your strengths are and where you need help! Keep going!

I’m excited FOR YOU! Need some one-on-one goal setting? I’m always here for you. Give me a shout to put your goals into action! Get EXCITED! Happy 2018!
