One Member’s Inspirational story of Achievement Episode 2

One Health Clubs is eager to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our individual members. The following is the inspirational story of member Darin Diehl. Darin has been a member at One Health Clubs since March 2013.

I get it now. A health and fitness journey can seem daunting in the early days, but once you start to hit some milestones you don’t ever want it to end.

I joined One Health Clubs in the spring of 2013. At 53, I was coping with psoriatic arthritis, high blood pressure and sciatica. None of those conditions were helped by the extra weight I was carrying. I had been on the Weight Watchers program for some time but hadn’t yet embraced a regular fitness regime. And after years of driving our kids around to their sports events – my wife and I decided it was time we invested in our own fitness.

Soon after joining I made another decision to seek the help and advice of a professional trainer. I began working with Brian Cruz, who also later started training my wife and two daughters. Brian didn’t just teach me technique with the free weights, machines and other exercises – he motivated and challenged me.

Brian also advised me to take post work-out stretching seriously – but accurately predicted that like many I wouldn’t do it justice. So he steered me toward yoga. I eventually settled into 2 to 3 classes a week. Level 1 “gentle warm” yoga with Anna Agas on Tuesday evenings
became a must attend for me for a year and a half now. I also started attending Anna’s Cardio Kickboxing class on Saturday’s.

I began to run regularly in May and have logged over 250 miles since – something I don’t think I could have done at any other point in my life. Since joining the gym I have lost some 60 pounds and counting and I am grateful for the help I’ve received from Brian, Anna and the whole One Health Clubs team. I am getting close to my goal weight but will see that as just another milestone on a journey I will continue for as long as I can.
